This inaugural event in William Paterson University’s Musical Salon Series celebrates the 242nd birthday of Ludwig van Beethoven. It features music performed on piano, cello, violin and clarinet. Performances include Beethoven’s Sonata No. 5 in D Major, Op. 102, No. 2; his “Waldstein” Sonata No. 21 in C Major, Op. 53; Sonata No. 8 in G Major, Op. 30, No. 3; and his Fourth Trio in B-flat Major, Op. 11. The performers are Gary Kirkpatrick on piano, Amy Ward Butler on cello, Brennan Sweet on violin, and Andrew Lamy on clarinet.

As part of William Paterson University’s continuing Midday Artist series, violinist Evelyn Estava and pianist Itay Goren perform sonatas for violin and piano by Mozart, Debussy and Brahms. Selections include “Sonate für Piano forte und Violine K. 301″ by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; “Sonate pour Violon et Piano in G Minor” by Claude Debussy (written near the end of the composer’s life); “Sonate für Pianoforte und Violine Op. 108″ by Johannes Brahms (aka the D Minor Sonata, where the composer interweaves lyricism with tragic, haunting undertones); and “Danse Espagnole” arranged by Fritz Kreisler.

This concert celebrates the music of Hungarian composer Béla Bartók. Frank Pavese, an adjunct professor of music at William Paterson University, performs Bartók’s “Sonata for Piano,” a solo piece. “Sonata for Violin and Piano” is played by violinist Dimitar Hadjipetkov and pianist Itay Goren ’04. Pavese and Goren play the piano parts for “Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion,” joined by Alex Buxbaum and Jeffery Rubin on percussion.
